A few weeks ago Brian told me that he was planning a surprise weekend getaway for Valentine's Day. He and I are both always up for a good adventure, so I was pretty stoked, knowing whatever he had up his sleeve it was going to be good. But I could have never predicted a yurt. They're pretty damn bad ass--kind of like a cabin, kind of like a tent, completely awesome. Ours had electricity, so we were able to bring a rice cooker and an electric griddle, aka not entirely roughing it. We stayed at Sunset Bay State Park on the Oregon Coast. Even better, we were able to bring Penelope because a few of the state parks have yurts, cabins, and sites that are pet-friendly :)
It was probably one of the best weekends I've ever spent. We had no cell service or wifi and it was glorious. We were close enough to the nearby towns of Coos Bay and North Bend that Brian made reservations one night for a delicious Italian dinner to celebrate Valentine's. We also got to explore some little antique shops. Saturday we made the short walk down to the beach and let Penelope run around chasing seagulls and drinking salt water. We also hiked up the hillside and explored an abandoned WWII lookout post. We ended the day exploring the gardens at Shore Acres State Park. I found myself envisioning other special occasions we could celebrate in such a beautiful location.
We had a fire pit as well, but it was slightly drizzly each morning and evening and starting a fire for just the two of us, though romantic, seemed like a lot of work. We opted instead for beers and books and pup snuggles to put us to bed each night. I asked Brian how he came up with such a perfect weekend and he reminded me that camping on the beach with Penelope on the Oregon Coast was on my 27 before 28 list. He knew that it was unlikely we'd be able to do that without freezing our buns off before my birthday in March but he wanted to try to get me as close as possible. Dying. I love him so much. He even indulged me by taking some outfit photos and letting us take a detour on the way home Sunday to visit a lighthouse, but I'll save those posts for another day.

This looks like so much fun! I love camping, and I'd definitely love to try out a yurt.
